We currently have 15 Crested Geckos, each one is different in colour, pattern and attitude. We started adding Cresties to our family in 2008, with 2 males. Sunny is a full yellow pinstripe flame and Storm is a partial pinstripe extreme cream harlequin. We soon added some females with these - Autumn and Raindrop - both born in 2008. Autumn is a yellow tiger with a few dalmatian spots in her, she lives with Sunny and these guys have produced some stunning hatchlings. Raindrop is a harlequin with dalmatian spots and lives with Storm - she laid her first eggs January 2010 and we are awaiting them to hatch.  Both our adult females came to us with dropped tails but they still weigh over 38grams each and look fantastic. Sadly Sunny lost his tail when he escaped one night and our cat chased him, he still weighs 40grams though and has been fine since. Misty was one of our older females who sadly we no longer have but she was mated to Storm and they produced some stunning hatchings.

We have 4 juvenile females - imports from USA - who were born between May and June 2009. Depending on how they turn out we will look to be breeding these guys in 2011. They are doing really well and putting good steady weight on.

We have 1 juvenile chocolate morph male who we are growing on and we are hoping to put him with some of our juvenile females when they are big enough. He is a great contrast to our light girls as he is so dark. He is currently weighing 36grams

We had 4 eggs laid 2009 as we didn't start breeding until later in the year. 2 hatchlings are out of Autumn and Sunny and 2 are out of Misty (one of our previous females) who was a yellow tiger and Storm. These 4 hatchlings are doing well and growing steadily. They hatched throughout December 2009. See below under offspring for available hatchlings.

All our cresties are raised on Rapeshys two part crested gecko diet - all varieties - and occasional live foods such as crickets and roaches. They are all given UV-A and UV-B lighting and we really see the colours come out with using the lighting and also find the females have maintained best weight with using UV-B.

CARE SHEET

Natural location

New Caledonia

Lifespan in captivity

up to 20 years

Length

up to 10” nose to tail

Diet

Specially formulated crested gecko diet (contains all of the essential fats, proteins, minerals, and vitamins that crested geckos need). We recommend Repashys crested gecko diet, available from Sticky feet.

They will also eat  a variety of livefoods from a young age

Supplements

If crested gecko diet is used then no additional supplements are necessary.

Vivarium

Adult : 2ftx2ftx3ft minimum

Under 6months :  12”x12”x18”

Cage mates

Can be housed individually or in groups providing there are plenty of hiding spots and the vivarium is large enough. Never more than 1 male per group,

Decoration

Live plants will help with humidity.

Logs and other tunnels at a range of heights

Variety of branches and vines in all directions

UV-B

Recommend, especially for breeding females. A good quality compact or strip UV-B bulb of 8%. We use this for all our crested geckos from hatchling to adult.

UV-A

Recommended for wellbeing and natural behaviour.

Most good UV-B bulbs also provide UV-A

Temperature

Daytime: 72F to 80F (greater than 85F crested geckos become stressed, which could lead to illness or death)

Night-time: can tolerate into the mid 60's but it is not necessary

Basking site

No, but may benefit, no higher than 80F

ALL bulbs (UV and heat) should be behind a screen covering to prevent the gecko touching the bulb

Humidity

High humidity is welcomed by these guys, providing adequate ventilation is given.

Adults – daily fine misting will encourage the gecko to drink

Hatchlings to juveniles – 2 to 3 times fine misting but allow to dry out between sprays to avoid stagnant water

Ventilation

Very important, especially with high humidity. To create good airflow place large vent panels at the bottom and top of the vivarium. Mesh vivariums, exoterra aboreal vivariums or adapted wooden vivariums work well.
