QUADRICORNIS

FOUR HORNED CHAMELEONS

Scroll to the bottom for care information

Mrs QuadMRS QUAD has been with our family since August 2009, kindly given to us from walkaboutreptiles. Mrs Quad was captive bred in March 2009 in Germany and then imported to the UK.  She is a very quiet lady and very shy, but easy to handle. She prefers her cockroaches and crickets to locusts but we still offer her a variety.

Mr QuadMR QUAD is UK captivebred and was alsmr quad faceo given to us from walkaboutreptiles. He is a lovely character and his little horns are growing by the day. He is not as shy as Mrs Quad and doesn't mind being handled. Mr Quad loves misting time, he often comes up to the spray with his mouth open and tongue sticking out slightly to drink from the spray bottle!

CARE SHEET

Natural location

Upper mountains of Cameroon, Africa

Lifespan in captivity

up to 6/7 years

Length

up to 14” nose to tail, females typically much smaller

Diet

Variety of livefoods particulary roaches and crickets

Supplements

Calcium supplements WITHOUT vitamin D3 (either a 2:1 calcium to phosphorus ratio, or is phosphorus free).

Quadricorns are very sensitive to Vitamin A and D so excessive supplementation can be problematic

Adults: Supplement with both once or twice fortnightly. Quadricorns have alower metabolism than other non-montane species and therfore do no require as much supplementation.

Juveniles: Calcium supplement every other feed. Vitamin supplements weekly

Vivarium

Adult : 2ftx2ftx3ft, large males may need more space

Under 4months :  18”x18”x20”

Cage mates

NO! chameleons are very territorial and will quickly become distressed with other cage mates

Decoration

Live plants – particularly Umbrella trees. Lots of branched leafy areas really help as these chameleons can be quite shy creatures

Variety of branches and vines in all directions

UV-B

Definitely needed. We recommend the Arcadia 5-8% bulb

UV-A

Recommended for wellbeing and natural behaviour.

Most good UV-B bulbs also provide UV-A.

Temperature

72F to 76F (22C and 25C) during the day and a good drop at night to 60F

Basking site

These chameleons require much cooler temperatures than other types but may benefit from a small 20W desk light to provide light without too much extra heat.

ALL bulbs (UV and heat) should be behind a screen covering to prevent the chameleon touching the bulb.

Humidity

Adults and hatchlings 2-3 times daily misting minimum will encourage the chameleon to drink but allow to dry out between sprays to avoid stagnant water. The Quads natural habitat sees over 600mms of rain water per year so misting these species is veyr important.

Ventilation

Very important. To create good airflow place large vent panels at the bottom and top of the vivarium. Mesh vivariums or adapted wooden vivariums work well.
